Priyanka Chopra is on cloud nine after the superb success of ‘Fashion’ and ‘Dostana’. The sexy actress has gone into a hiding by choice after churning out six back to back releases this year and exhausting herself to the hilt.

Get set to watch a never-before-seen scene on the ramp. At an upcoming fashion event in January, 24 former Indian beauty queens will reportedly walk the ramp and some of them will even perform on the occasion.

Aishwarya Rai, Sushmita Sen, Dia Mirza, Zeenat Aman, Juhi Chawla, Sangeeta Bijlani, Meenakshi Sesadri and Diana Hayden are some of the names who have been approached to participate in the event. Some of them have already agreed and the last few deals will be finalised by mid-December.

This three-day event has been initiated by Reel Life Entertainment of film producer Vinay Sinha and United Multimedia of Mehul Choksey from the Gitanjali group and Sanjay Sharma.

Sanjay Dutt penning

Fans of Sanjay Dutt can read about his eventful life in his autobiography, The Roar of a Lion, which he is now working on. “Sanjay Dutt’s autobiography is called The Roar of a Lion and it is almost half done,” a well-placed source in the film industry said here on Saturday, revealing the title that was the subject of much guesswork so far. The date for the book’s release has not been decided as Dutt is busy with his film schedules.

He had long been telling friends about his wish to pen an autobiography. When he told his wife Manyata about it, she backed him to the hilt. Meanwhile, Dutt’s filmmaker friend Sanjay Gupta too has commissioned a biography of the actor as a tribute to him.

To be penned by journalist, author and lyricist Neelesh Mishra, it will be in three volumes covering Dutt’s life in three phases.

The first volume will deal with the period when the star went into drug rehabilitation. The second volume will recount his marriage to Richa Sharma, their divorce and her tragic death, while the final volume will be about his legal battles, probation and life

Sada heads to Bollywood

Among the south girls making their debut in Bollywood, the spotlight has been on Asin and her Ghajani.

Bollywood actors have stage fright!

Far away in New York, Katie Holmes is winning hearts with her Broadway debut in Arthur Miller’s All My Sons, following in the footsteps of Julia Roberts and Al Pacino who have dominated the stage and screen with equal élan.

However, in India theatre directors are not too keen on having movie stars on stage. They feel Bollywood stars are ‘too indisciplined’ to fit into a stage actor’s shoes. Veteran theatre director, Alyque Padamsee rubbishes the thought that the presence of Bollywood actors can provide an impetus to an art form that commands only a niche audience.

He says, “The bar of good actors who can act well in both cinema and the stage has been set by stalwarts like Anupam Kher, Farooq Sheikh, Naseeruddin Shah and their likes. However, when film actors are just shoved into a play to try and get a hit, it brings a bad name to everyone associated with theatre.” He adds, “Blame it on the lack of discipline. Stage acting requires discipline that most Bollywood actors don’t have.”

Payal Rohatagi knows for sure how to grab eyeballs. And this time she has copied Ash costumes from head to toe from the famous Kajra Re song (from Yash Chopra’s film Bunti Aur Babli) for her forthcoming movie Dil Kabbadi.

Payal’s character in Dil Kabbadi is of a yoga instructor, who is having an extra marital affair with Irfan Khan, and together they are play-acting various roles to spice up their affair. In this particular sequence they enact the Kajra Re sequence.

“The central idea behind this song was identification with the audience, explains debutant director,” Anil Sharma.

“Irfan and Payal play games in bedroom and play act several roles… we wanted sequences or acts that audience could identify with and Kajra Re won hands down,” he adds.

Said Payal Rohatagi before heading for Bigg Boss’ house where she is going stay for a week, “I was extremely excited for this song called Good Night… This song will show me sporting different looks and one of the look is where I do the mujra act. It is very special to me as my entire look is very different to what I have ever looked till now. My outfit is similar to that of Aishwarya’s in the Kajra Re Song. Fashion” was expected to expose the cold realities of India’s fashion industry, but it ends up revealing Madhur Bhandarkar’s limitations as a writer and director.Just like his last two films, “Corporate” and “Traffic Signal”, in “Fashion” too Bhandarkar skims the surface instead of digging deep. For those who are aware of his style of filmmaking, it is a predictable narrative.

The movie, touted as his costliest and most glamorous so far, is said to be doing well at the box office. But it doesn’t go into the heart of the industry, such as the business aspect, the intricate backstage work that goes into shows and aspects of design.“Fashion” shows modelling as a dazzling profession on the outside but as brutal from inside and this is one of the drawbacks of the film. Every profession has its merits and demerits and perhaps the director shouldn’t have demonised modelling the way he has done in the movie.

Another problem with the storyline is that despite being successful, the two starry-eyed girls from small towns played by Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut are often shown as leading miserable personal lives - a cliche if there ever was one.Kangana, whose character is reportedly modelled on real life model Geetanjali Nagpal, is a high-profile model with loads of attitude.
